LAS ANIMAS 35, Fowler 7 - Coach Greg Koenig: "We are now 3-2 after beating Fowler (#8 in 1A) by a score of 35-7. We had 32:56 time of possession and 71 carries for 469 yards. Our A-back had 20 carries for 134 yards and 3 TD's; our C-back had 23 carries for 148 yards and 1 TD; our B-back had 13 carries for 72 yards; and our QB had 12 carries for 105 yards and 1 TD. Our last TD came on a 78 yard QB reverse that I picked up at your clinic in Denver last April. We were 0-6 passing, so maybe now the coaches in the stands will get off my back about not throwing it enough!"

ASSUMPTION 41, Clinton 14 - Coach Mark Kaczmarek: "448 total yds. A back 14 for 169, B back 10 for 42 and C back 14 for 94 yds. We passed for 142 yds. as well. 29/38-go were our killers this week "

FOREST CITY 28, Webster City 12 - Coach Jason Sopko: We won our 3rd game of the year, one more than the previous years team, and did it power football style. We ran a total of 74 plays compared to their 36. We picked up 23 first downs to their 8. We gained over 400 yards of offense with 350 being on the ground. We stopped ourselves on 3 drives with penalties. A lot of things are going well for my first year as head coach here, but the best thing is that the kids, coaches, and administration have bought into what we are doing. So far in grades 7-12, our football teams at Forest City have a combined record of 19-6."

FREDERICKSBURG 28 POSTVILLE 27. Coach Steve Staker: "Another OT!!! I'm too old for this. Scored 2 tds on under 99 power. The last one in OT. B back 107 yds running 2@3 3@2 and spread 8@9 speed option reach. A great game."

ROCK CREEK 54, Mission Valley 6 - Coach Mike Beam: "We beat Mission Valley 54-6 and had over 500 yds. We put it in with our H.S. and J.H. and we are both 5-0 and we are avg. 44pts. per game and our J.H. 38. We are ranked as high as third in class 3-A for the first time in school history. We beat a team this year that we had never beaten before 44- 16. Over the last 3 weeks my QB is 7 of 9 passing with 5 td's. My A back has carried the ball 80 times for 869 yds. and 18 tds. We have one more game before state district play ,I hope we can make the playoffs this year. That would be a first for Rock Creek."

BOOTHBAY REGIONAL 36, Old Orchard Beach 12 - Coach Jack Tourtillotte: "A clasic DW Day. 360 yards total offense.. We started the game with our usual squib kick that a back line player fumbled and we recovered. An 88 super power for 8 yards and then can you believe it a 7- Thunder to To our big tight end Billy Hardwick for a 35 yard TD. Billy ran the banna and was wide open. A-Back Alex Rand had 118 yards on ten carries. A big win making us 3-1 in the conference."

GORHAM 8, Windham 0 - Coach Dave Kilborn: "Improving to 4-0, but we had a lackluster day. We were unable to run a couple of our plays but after watching the film - I had a couple of players blocking the wrong person & getting in the way. We play Windham three times this year - "developmental league" and we have won two of them. It was interesting to see how they worked their game plan around our toss. Glad we put in Tight Rip 77 Super Power this week! If we hadn't fumbled twice on the XX 47 C the score would have been different but it was a great game to learn some more about ourselves & the offense."

REED CITY 22, Big Rapids 21 - Coach Monty Price: "The Coyotes defeated the Big Rapids Cardinals (our arch-rival) on Saturday by a score of 22-21. The game came down to a 2 point conversion attempt with 50 seconds remaining in the game. With a "set of stones", we punched it in and went on to win the game. This improves our record to 5-1. It also secures Reed City's first winning season since 1994. One more victory will give Reed City its first playoff appearance in school history. Lots of excitement here in Coyote land."

FRUITPORT 20, Muskegon Orchard View 7

KALAMAZOO CHRISTIAN 35, Hackett Catholic Central 7. - Coach Herb Persons: "We had a very good balanced attack and used a lot of players in defeating our crosstown rival. Our record is now 5 and 1, this will be our first winning season in many years and 1 more win will put us in the playoffs for the first time ever! This team can win the last 3 games if they decide they want to."

CORNING WEST 60, Dryden 0 - Coach Mike Johnston: "Hi Coach, Well, everything really came together Saturday evening with all three facets of the game. We scored touchdowns offensively, defensively, and on special teams. We rushed for 350 yards for the game, but the real story was our defensive and specialty team effort. Defensively, we have shut our last three opponents out over the course of the last 10 quarters and have produced points off of turnovers. Saturday, two sophomores returned a Dryden turnover for long scores. Jarrett Moffitt intercepted a pass and returned it 91 yards for one TD and Chris Clark, an OLB, returned a fumble 96 yards for another score. It's nice to have a bunch of the young guys making big contributions at the Varsity level. Chris Scanlon also returned the 2nd half kickoff 80 yards to get things headed in the right direction. This was one of the best all around efforts we have had at West in my 7 year tenure."

SIDNEY 46, Binghamton Seton Catholic Central 8 - Coach Jeff Matthews: It was a great performance for our Warriors. The score was 46-8 the defense played well giving up one big play early then shutting down Binghamton Seton for the last three quarters. The offense rushed for 523 yards. Chad Smith our C back rushed for 320 yards on 25 carries and Josh Dumund A back rushed for 120 yards. Our pass game was 0-2 with 1 INT. We have had some bright spots this season with three close games. We move the ball well but have had trouble finishing drives. We had 11 fumbles lost in the first games. In our five games Chad Smith has 943 yards. It would be nice to be writing to you next week too."

TROY CATHOLIC CENTRAL 36, Columbia 18 - Coach Pete Porcelli - "We beat Columbia a class aa team. We are only a class b team with 22 members on team. Remember this name - Shonte Freeman, he set a school record with 18 carries for 271 yds and 4 tds and he's a only a sophomore Columbia put 9 guys in the box but still couldn't stop our ground attack. We had 450 yds rushing. They did a tnt look and also crashed the ends, no problem. Our 6-7 g were there all day. 38-29gto worked well and 3tr at 4 was golden, It also helps when you got 6 guys that can run the ball. The Freeman kid is 6-0 225 a soph. This offense was made for him.We are now 3-2 and I took over this dead program which was a combined 4-48 in the last 7 years. they haven't had a winning season since 1993 and we are on our way. This team was 0-9 last year with basically the same players."

We played a school Friday night a lot larger than us and they brought their entire varsity and Jr. varsity teams to the game, I quess to scare us. It didn't work we beat Southside 32 to 14. We rushed for 427 yards averaging 8 yards per rush. We threw the ball 7 times to appease the gods, completed 3 for 35 yards but lost 15 yards of that 35 with a sack. This was a team we hadn't beaten in over 20 years."

YUMA SCORPIONS  13, Bulldogs 0 Coach L. E. "Stew" Stewart: "We managed to beat a very fine football team. It was a defensive struggle for both sides. Offense seemed to be asleep, I guess leaving town at 6 a.m. for a 8 a. m. game will do that to you. "

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

NORTH DELTA COLTS 36, Langley Outlaws 6 - Coach Roger Kelly: "We rushed for 232 yards and added another 46 in the air for 278 yards total offense in posting our fifth straight victory beating the Langley Outlaws 36-6. This week the 99SP was there and we ran it for 82 yards total. But we mixed everything up scoring on the 47C, 56C, Over I right 88 O, a Tight Liz TE slant right and on a tight 5 X lead. They had a mammoth at nose tackle so instead of a tight 0 wedge which we usually run, we went back to the Tight 2 wedge. An opposing coach paid me a compliment by asking after the game how we get such great blocking from our "O" line. I described the pancake blocking drill to him."

NIPOMO COWBOYS 30, Santa Ynez Pirates 20 - Coach Jim Chambers: "We ran over slot and swept them for 300 yards. The kids are catching on well, as I have told you I have run the Single-wing for two years and I think the similarity in blocking schemes and overall philosophy has made it an easy transition."

SOUTH VALLEY PANTHERS 19, Westside Bruins 0 - Coach Bill Shine: "After rain cancelled the game, the make-up game was played last night. The Panthers rolled under the lights, scoring on the opening drive of the game. We wedged and Powered up the field..88 power was the money play of the game...Mikel Roy scored on a 40 yd scamper running 88 power....There were 2 more ball control drives with the wedge plays gaining 4-6 yds a pop. Carlos Lopez scored on 2 short yardage plays. The Bruins could generate no offense against an aggressive 10-1 defense. It was a good night Coach considering we suffered a tough loss on 2 controversial calls( a protest has been filed) in our previous game. We will play our 3rd game in 7 days this Saturday afternoon, but I believe the momentum will carry us on. Yours in the Double Wing!"

FRANKFORT WILDCATS 60, Orland Park 27 - COACH ROB SWAIM: "Coach, Its very hard sometimes not to score using this offense. Our starters played just 1 quarter to quickly make the score 28-0 and then never saw the field again. Starting C back ran for 105 yard on 3 carries scoring 3 TD's, and our A back rushed for 64 yards on 6 carries scoring 2 TD's. It was great to get the 2nd and 3rd teamers a lot of playing time, thanks to this offense we are able to do that! The entire offense executed with perfection today scoring on all but one possession, racking up a total of 358 yards on 30 carries. The opposing team thanked us afterwards for allowing them to score a few TD's. You see most teams in our league will always put the 1st string "D" back onto the field when somebody is about to score. It was great to see the excitement on the kids faces as they where scoring since they have only scored 1 TD this season."

HANOVER PARK HURRICANES 24 Lombard Falcons 0 - Coach BIll Lawlor: "Hanover Park runs 34 offensive plays (33 on the ground) and racks up 325 yards. Hurricanes run primarily out of an unbalanced Single Wing set but keep double wing blocking rules. Trey Porter scores twice and racks up 187 yards from 88 Super - O in over formation with the direct snap. Hanover Park also runs spinner series with Over 3 trap at 2, Spinner 2 wedge direct snap to blocking back and a spinner 29 Reach play. New look - same scheme, and Hanover Park 110lb. team goes to 4-1 on the season with its fourth defensive shut out!!"

KENTUCKY

DAVIESS COUNTY (Frosh) 22, Apollo 14 - Coach David Crump: " The key plays were: Over 88 power, Under 99 power, 47 counter and 47 criss-cross. This avenged an earlier 30-2 loss at Apollo when we turned the ball over 6 times!! (We play all of our county schools a home and away series each year to cut down on travel expenses)."

MARYLAND

GREENBELT RAIDERS 7, Kentland 0 - Coach Dwayne Pierce: "Tonight we won a very tough game! Instead of 5 tough yrds, we averaged maybe 3. Penalties kept us from the end zone in the first half. Defense played inspired the whole game. With less than a minute left I called for our C back to run a fly route and not the banana route we usually do. Everything was to be as if we were running 88 pwr. Great protection gave the QB time to throw and with that he completed a 30 yrd pass to the C back in stride for the only score of the game. That was the only pass we threw all night!! Coach, I'm so happy for my kids. The DW is very versatile and easy to make adjustments during the game. I learn something new every week about the DW. All the parents and coaches commented on what a gutsy call that was at the end. It's only a good call if it works !!"

MASSACHUSETTS

FRONTIER MIDDLE SCHOOL (SOUTH DEERFIELD) 32, Great Falls 8

WEST BOYLSTON/BOYLSTON 33, Shrewsbury 0 - Coach Scott Anderson: "Had great success with Overslot Liz 88 SP, 47c, and Overslot Lou Lazer 99 Down T. Coach, we have now run that play succesfully in 3 games averaging10 yards per carry."

WESTFIELD PATRIOTS 23, Holyoke 0 - Coach Jeff Gordon: "Well on Saturday night we played a team (like most) with 40+ kids, we showed up with 23. We haven't beaten Holyoke in years, and my team came out fired up and won 23-0. I was warned by the league that I would be suspended if I continued the "Unethical practice" of scoring more than 23 points over an opponent (somehow, with 20 kids versus 40 to 50 kids, I don't think I have that many personnel decisions) I was forced to instruct my QB to throw the ball out of the endzone to avoid scoring the 2 pt conversion on my teams last TD. We drove the ball on them all night, and scored on the Wedge, 5X and a halfback pitch my assistant designed to confuse the other teams. We scored 2 pt conversions on the Wedge and 88 Super Power. We were able to wedge on them all night, and when they jammed up the middle to stop it, we went with the 88 and 99 Super Powers. What a great feeling and a monkey off my back. I was just waiting for the parents to start complaining about the offense but I luckily didn't hear any of that...4 more games, and they will all be tough..."

KALAMAZOO CHRISTIAN 16, Galesburg 0 (8th grade)

MINNESOTA

PINE CITY (FROSH)22, Foley 12 - Coach Mike O'Donnell- "Last night our freshmen pushed their record to 3-0 with a 22-12 defeat of an excellent Foley team. We took the opening kickoff and marched down the field overcoming a couple of major penalties only to be kept out of the end zone when, after having one touchdown called back, our receiver was knocked out of bounds on the three-yard line. In a ten minute quarter, we ran off 9:13 of the game clock so Foley had just 47 seconds of possession in the first period. Unfortunately, they scored first on a long run but we then came back and tallied three times in the second period on an interception return, an 87-yard run off the COUNTER, and a 26-yard COUNTER. Then, late in the game, we ran the SUPER POWER possibly the best we have all season and controlled the clock while gaining valuable field position on our way to the win. For the night, our A-back had 11 carries for 125 yards, our B-backs combined for 12 carries and 66 yards, and our C-back had 10 rushes for 137 yards. In addition, we were five of nine passing and had three different players score touchdowns. Although we felt we did not play our best in terms of being technically sound, the team gave a great effort and battled through adversity. Thanks again for everything."

DURHAM EAGLES 34, Tri-County Panthers 6 - Coach Dave Potter: "After a 2-week layoff (1 open date, 1 rain out) our Durham Fighting Eagles returned to the field to defeat the Tri-County Panthers, 34-6. The Panthers were 4-0 coming into this game, giving up only 6 points all season with 3 shut outs. We scored on our second play from scrimmage and never looked back. We led 21-0 at the half. We rushed for 287 yards with a team average of 8.9 yards per carry. Our leading rusher ran for 79 yards (13.1 per carry). 5 different players scored on touchdowns of 57, 57, 54, 20 and 2 yards. For the season, we have out-rushed our opponents 1053 yards (9.4 per carry) vs. 232 (1.9 per carry). We have outscored our opponents 121-18 (an average of 30 to 4.5). I guess I'm most proud of the fact that we played so well after a 2-week layoff. Next week, the Cary Titans come to town. It will be an interesting game for us because our starting QB is going out of town with his family on vacation and will miss the game. Our FB will move to QB and our End will move to FB. We'll see how well we can run the Double Wing with the backup. Talk to you next week."

MOUNT PLEASANT VIKINGS 13, Bulldogs 12 - Coach Jody Hagins: "On the opening kickoff, after harping on my front line to cover the ball if it was kicked to them, my back line receiver did just that, so we started on our own 20. We then proceeded to run TR88SP, TL99SP, and 2-Wedge for the 60 yards necessary to score. TD came on TL99SP, followed by 2-Wedge for PAT. Quarters are 7 minutes, and we took about 5 on our initial drive."

TENNESSEE

FRANKLIN COWBOYS 43, Brentwood 7 - Coach Greg Stout: "Coach, The offense really executed today. Our record is now 5-1 after beating Brentwood 43-7. We didn't punt all day as we scored on 6 of 7 times we had the ball. We lost 1 fumble. We wedged the first 2 plays for 10 and 15 yards and Brentwood called a timeout to adjust. They started bearcrawling through the gaps but then that opened up the outside. We scored 3 times outside to the right (38 G-O) and a Strong right formation 88G pitch. We scored 3 to the left on the opposite plays. 4 different backs scored for us also. We also converted all of our PATs including a 2 point pass on our first TD. I am seeing continuous improvement by our kids and that is what it is all about. "

WASHINGTON

EDMONDS CYCLONES 14, South County Warriors 12 - Coach Glade Hall: "We beat our cross town rivals on Saturday in the rain and mud. Our inside game finally got some life with 6 and 7G getting some good yardage. Our speed to the outside was somewhat slowed due to the wet field which changed things a lot. We drove 64 yards on our first possession running 99 SP for the last three yards but got bit by the phantom, "Block in the Back" call. We were unable to score after that on the drive. Later in the quarter we had another long drive and got it in on a QB wedge from the two. We converted the extra point on a fake kick try. You get two points for kicking and one for running. It was so wet out I knew we had a better chance of running in in. They scored but missed the point try to make it 7-6 at the half. Early in the third quarter our C back went out with an ankle and we had Alex Tilley a young #2 step in. He played big, scoring the put away TD on a 99 SP for 57 yards with under four minutes to go. They got a touch down late but we ran it out at the end. The win put us at 5-0 and again we find ourselves with at the top of the heap. Our division has eight teams with three that are very close to us so we must keep them sharp. Two more regular season games then the playoffs."

WISCONSIN

FRANKLIN SABERS 33, Whitnall Falcons 0 - Coach Rick Senk: "38 Offensive plays, 262 total yards, 7 of 8 passing, 3 for TD's. Super Powers worked to spread the defense. 47-C was text book. With just seconds left in the first half we drew up a play in the huddle Tight Rip 88 Halfback Pass QB Bootleg. Our QB bootlegged down the left sideline and caught the ball in the endzone as time expired. It was beautiful. 2 Wedge is still the Franklin Fans Favorite. All of our 40 players contributed. Congratulations to our defense which gave up only 2 first downs." (Nice going, Coach- Shows how versatile and flexible the system is when you can draw a play in the dirt and give it a name that makes sense to the kids so they can instantly understand it and then execute it!)
