MT. VERNON 27, Clarksville 0 - Coach Paul Maier: A rare (thankfully) Saturday game for us. We beat a good Clarksville team. Great defensive play all night and our offense really clicked. A back had 200 yards on 21 carries and only played 2 and a half quarters. B back, 59 yards on 6 carries and 2 td's. We are now 6-2 and guaranteed the second best season in school history. Jasper friday (8-0, ranked 3 in the state 4A of 5 classes). Will be tough. Then we start the playoffs.

Rushing C-backs 10 for 135, A-backs 10 for 163, B-backs 11for 49, and QB's 2 for 37. We were 3 of 4 for 74yds. passing. The big hitters for us were 56/47 Cxx's"

FOREST CITY 25, Humboldt 13 - Coach Jason Sopko (In his first year at Forest City) " Another win for Forest City this past Friday 25 - 13 over Humbolt, upping our record to 4-2, and 3-1 in district play. We are one win away from having a winning season, the first since 1988. Wingback Adam Helm rushed 30 times for 211 yards and Full back Waylan Folkerts added 97 yards. We topped the 400 yard mark for the second straight game. Next up is another 4-2 team, Boone. This is a big game in the fact that whoever wins this will be in the drivers seat for making the playoffs.

We ran 40 plays in the first half to their 12 and dominated time of possession. Boothbay 37-Livermore Falls 6. For the third week in a row we eliminated a team from the play-offs. Next week the undefeated Wintrhop Ramblers but if we improve this week as much as we have the last three we will give them a game.

CONY

GORHAM 34 - Mt. Ararat 26. Coach Dave Kilborn: "Close one. Down 19-6 at halftime, we came out in the second half and stuck to our game plan. My C-Back carried 32 times for 235 yards (Think we ran the same play over and over?) Both Tight Liz 99 Super Power and TIght RIp 77 Super Power went a minimum of five yards every time we ran it! We had a total of 380 yards of Rushing Offense."

AMHERST 28, Williamsville East 14 - Coach Jason Beckman: "Tigers notch their third win of the season, bringing their league record to 3-1, a showdown next week (our homecoming) against second place Kenmore East will decide the second playoff spot in our division. We played in a mud bowl last night vs. a crosstown rival. Even though conditions were tough we were able to grind out 180 yards rushing, our C back went over 100 yards for the 5th straight game - 20 carries for 113 yards, we completed every one of our passes (three) - one for a TD, our first drive of the game consumed 10 minutes and went 70 yards for a TD. Due to the fact that we gave up a TD on the ensuing kickoff (and then drove the length of the field for a second score) the other team took 7 offensive snaps in the first half, as we held onto a 14-7 halftime lead and then finished it off in the second half with some great special teams (blocked punt for a score) and defense (we drove down to the 1 yard line and didn't punch it in in the second half but returned an interception for a TD on the first offensive play for the other team). The kids are going crazy, our fans stormed the field after the win (first one in 7 years against this team) and were sliding in the mud with their shirts off !!! It was quite a sight. Thanks again for all your help, we made some of the defensive changes that you suggested and had the best defensive performance of the season (giving up 7 points - we had been averaging about 28-30 a game). "

ELMIRA NOTRE DAME 36, Chenango Valley 8

TROY CATHOLIC CENTRAL 49, Mohanasen 6. Catholic Central now 4-2 - Coach Pete Porcelli: "We beat Mohonasen high school again 2nd time this year. we played them twice because this year we have an independent schedule( our team has had a 4-48 record since 1993) My B back had 107 yds rushing with 3 tds while my a back had 122 yds on 6 carries and 3 tds we had over 300 yards rushing and now have 2,000 yds rushing in 6 games and are trying for 3,000. I promised the lineman if we attain that goal - Chinese - all you can eat on me. Hey- I'm a former lineman and I know linemen love to eat. I have a weight problem, I can't wait to eat!

BROOKVILLE 15, Bellbrook 7 - Coach Marc Gibson: "Hurray for Brookville. We defeated Bellbrook, the defending league champions, 15 - 7 last night at their field on their Homecoming Night! Bellbrook beat us last season 44 - 14. Their are much bigger than we are and they played a very aggressive defense, but we outgained them 185 yards to 152 and controlled the clock. Secured a second consecutive winning season with the win and remain in excellent playoff contention. We were pushed around by their strength and size, but got more first downs and got the yardage when we needed it. Stayed with the game plan of the running game."

ARCANUM

NORTON

PERRYSBURG

OREGON

SOUTH ALBANY 14, Lebanon 13 - South Albany gets the Homecoming win and goes to 4-1

PERRYDALE 50, Arlington O - Coach Eric Clendenin - "Another well executed game for us. We rushed for 394 yds., with the game again being stopped in the 3rd quarter because of the 45 pt. rule. We had 4 different players score and rush for 90 or more yards. We are now 5 - 0, and ranked #7 in the state. While it was a nice win for us, what made it especially sweet was that after the game, the lead referee went out of his way to come into our locker room and tell us that in his 5 years of doing this, our team displayed more class and sportsmanship than any other team at any level he had seen. It really put everything into perspective, and as a staff, we could not have been prouder. As a reminder, we are up at Hare Field in Hillsboro on Thursday at 1 p.m. vs. South Wasco County. Take care and hope to see you there." (This is one of two schools running the 8-man version of our Double-Wing. I am going to try to get there.)

CLARKSVILLE NORTHEAST 49, Nashville McGavock 13 - Coach Andy Cooper: "Coach, Won this past friday 49-13 for our homecoming. We were up 35-7 at the half and were able to play freshman and sophomore for part of the 3rd and all of the 4th quarters. We did not have a single turnover and the O was very smooth. Over 400 yards rushing C-backs had 270 on 18 carries mostly on 47-c. I knew they were in for a long night when they always shifted and stunted to motion from the tight rip motion. It was our most complete game to date. Next up for us is Hillsboro, ranked #2 in state and averaging 48 points per game. They run wing -t and have athletes everywhere..Should be interesting, glad it is a non-region game. We can still make play-offs if we win our last two games and that is possible. Both on the road but we will see, one at a time. I will keep you posted."

TEXAS

DANBURY 45, High Island 13 - Coach Don Davis: "Coach Wyatt, Double wing news from the Lone Star State...We defeated a 4-0 High Island team 45-13 Friday night. We rushed for 414 yards and passed for 45. A-back BRENT DEAN ran for 120 yds. on 9 carries ( 1 td), B-back BRENT ZWAHR had 71 yds. on 13 carries ( 1 td),C-back RYAN PUCEK had 2 carries for 51 yds( 2tds), C-back ALFONSO MARTINEZ ran 3 times for 49 yds and quarterback BRADLEY GANDY had 7 carries for 71 yds, also throwing a 45 yd touchdown pass to RYAN PUCEK. We played backups in the 4th quarter and were inside the 5 yard line when we let the clock expire. This is the first time Danbury has been 5-0 since 1970. We go into district play next week against what should be much more formidable competition. DHS has not won a District game in 12 years, we hope to change that very soon. Thanks for all you help. We'll keep you posted."

ARIZONA

YUMA SCORPIONS 18 - Sidewinders 0 - Coach L. E. "Stew" Stewart: "We took the opening kick off and marched down the field taking 19 - Yes 19 plays - to score the first TD (71 yards). We recovered 2 on-side kicks and kept the ball for 19:22 of the first half (10 minute quarters). They ran 19 plays the entire game. I ran 88 and 99 power with G-O down blocking to keep them sealed inside. The only other plays I used was the 5 base and the bootleg off the 88/99. Again, the only thing that stopped us was ourselves (fumbles). We have a bye this week, so I won't have anything to report next week." (I'll bet the Chamber of Commerce didn't have any say in the nicknaming of those teams!)

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

NORTH DELTA COLTS 8, Coquitlam Vikings 0 - Coach Roger Kelly: " The North Delta Colts are now 6-0 after beating the Coquitlam Vikings 8-0 Sunday. Despite Rolling up 230 yards in offense and being in the red zone five times we could only score one touchdown. They were chopping us all day from the tight ends in. the referees said nothing. As I mentioned before, this coach knows our offense better than anyone in the league and had scouted us extremely well. In the first half they stacked the defense against our A back and then switched in the 2nd quarter. We were able to adjust until we got close to the goal line. We finished the game on their one yard line - again. My B back carried the ball 11 times and was a workhorse."

CALIFORNIA

CENTRAL VALLEY BULLDOGS 32, Orland 12 Coach Don Hodson: "Tight two wedge went for 74 yards on 6 carries. Total rushing yards 281."

CYPRESS CHARGERS 21 Stanton Raiders 0 - Coach Christian Thomas: "Coach it still ceases to amaze me how many ways this offense can destroy a defense, I mixed up the plays so much I heard the other coach yell "just play them straight up and keep your eye on the ball" at that point I ran 47XX..Instant TD. We racked up 160 + rushing 45 + passing 4 of 6 (2 Int) Nice runs by our A & B Backs set up 2 TD Runs by our C Back. The execution by the boys was fantastic, last week's practice paid off..rep it, rep it and then rep it some more. Thanks Coach !!"

LOS GATOS TIGERS

LOS GATOS PANTHERS

NIPOMO COWBOYS 30, Santa Ynez Pirates 20 -

SOUTH VALLEY PANTHERS (Van Nuys) 14, North Valley Bears 6 - Coach Bill Shine:"Our kids came out a little flat on defense and allowed the Bears to pick up 2 first downs on their opening drive. We then stopped them and forced the Bears to punt. The Panthers ran back the punt to N.V.'s 35 yd line and proceeded to wedge and power down the field for the opening TD scored by B back Carlos Lopez on a 2 wedge play........South Valley controlled the ball for most of the game, penalties hurt our momentum though. After a half time talk and adjustments we were not penalized again and North Valley could find no room to run...Our A back Mikel Roy scored from about 10 yds out on an 88 P call in the 4th qtr....The Bears played us tough but our advantage was ball control. We are now 3-1 tied for second in our league and play the other second place team next Saturday."

COLORADO

KERSEY COUGARS 23, Ft. Lupton Devils 6 - Coach John Dillon: "We had the early game and it's getting chilly this time of year. After a slow start we had a great finish!"

MIDWAY PACKERS

ILLINOIS

DEERFIELD YOUNG WARRIORS 26, Maine East 14 - Coach Keith Babb- "Maine East played a 7 diamond defense and their best player lined up at nose. As such we gave them a steady dose of 88 and 99 super power. Our C back had an awesome game scoring on a 65 yard run and a 70 yard shuffle (shovel) pass. We also scored on Red Red and 88 s.p. We managed to play three different lines - so I hope we are getting deeper. Our defense is getting better as we picked off 4 passes today. Our 3rd string defense gave up a late score to make the score look closer. We are now 3 and 1 and looking forward to our last 3 games. I like how our team bounced back from last week's defeat."

FRANKFORT WILDCATS 7, Hickory Hills 6 - Coach Rob Swaim: "Today we overcame horrible officiating to beat the undefeated team in 2 OT. We were flagged 12 times to ZERO, with 2 of those coming on TD's, and 3 holding penalties in the 1st overtime. With such a flexible offense and with a few games under our belts we are able to adjust to any situation that is thrown at us. The 66/77 SP's are great plays and have worked for us all season, especially when the other teams start to key on your motion. Rushed for over 200 yards on a field covered with snow and mud. This win now makes us 4-1 and puts us into the playoffs!!"

WESTFIELD PATRIOTS 22, Springfield South Hawkeyes 6 - Coach Jeff Gordon: We won our second in a row today (we are 3-2)...The team we were playing had some big guys (230-240 lbs at 13-14 years old, wow!) and lined them up in a 5 man down line. We learned pretty quick that the Wedge wasn't going, so we 88 Super Powered them to death. We scored on 99 Super Power, 88 Super Power and The Wedge. We also scored 2 pt conversions on the Wedge and Red-Red. We were up 22-6 at the half (and we have that "22 point rule", if I score more, we forfeit)so I spent the rest of the game trying out some new stuff(Wildcat, etc...) and new personnel at different positions. Next up we have Springfield North, who we beat 38-8 in the first game...Something tells me they will want some revenge...They never get easy, do they Coach??"

MICHIGAN

KALAMAZOO CHRISTIAN 16, Galesburg 0 (8th grade)

TROY COWBOYS 26 Madison Hts. Wolverines 0 - Cowboys, now 6-0, have outscored opponents, 206-0

MINNESOTA

PINE CITY (FROSH)18, Princeton 0 - Coach Mike O'Donnell: "the Pine City freshmen ran their record to 4-0 with an 18-0 victory over a hard hitting, defensively aggressive Princeton squad. With it being extremely windy and cooler, we were able to keep the Tigers bottled up deep in their end of the field and scored late in the first quarter when our quarterback kept the ball on a pass attempt and scampered into the end zone from 23-yards out. Then, in the second period, we came alive and scored twice on COUNTER plays from inside the 20-yard line. Although we were able to keep on the move offensively in the second half, we struggled getting the ball into the end zone. Part of that was due to our offense not sustaining their blocks long enough, some was due to the running backs missing some cuts, but mostly it was because Princeton played very well against us. There were some tremendous hits delivered during the game and both teams felt a little banged up when it was done. On the night, our A-back was 13x121yds, B-backs were 15x87yds, and C-back was 13x81yds. In addition, our QBs were 5 of 9 for 88 yards. Defensively, we recovered two fumbles and intercepted two passes in one of our best efforts of the season. Next week will be a challenging one for us as we are in action on both Monday and Thursday. Thanks again for everything."

NEVADA

SPARKS LIONS 7, Reno Eagles 6 -

NEW HAMPSHIRE

MANCHESTER BEARS 32, Exeter 20 - Coach John Trisciani: "51 carries, 340 yards rushing. Game plan ws to feature the wedge and we did. 16 wedges for 98 yards. Our motto: "No one stops the Wedge." Exeter played a great game and we knew we need to control the ball."

NEW JERSEY

CAPE MAY RAIDERS 18, Ocean City 6

NORTH CAROLINA

DURHAM EAGLES 33, Cary Titans 0 (Eagles now 5-0) Coach Dave Potter: "Our starting QB was on vacation with his family and had to miss the game, but our FB who filled in for him, was more than able. With only a week's practice at QB, he was able to run every play in our playbook with no problems. We outrushed Cary (202 yards vs. NEGATIVE 24 yards) and we would have rushed for more yardage but all 5 of our scoring drives started on their 46, 36, 45, 37, and 27 yard lines so we never had too far to go to score. 3 of our TDs were just one play "drives" (our scores from their 46, 45, and 37). Our FB is averaging 21.1 yards per carry (for the season) and our C BACK is averaging12.9 per carry. We've outrushed our opponents 1,249 yards (9.1 per carry) vs. 208 yards (1.42 per carry) and outscored them, 154 to 18. We're the only Double Wing team in the conference. Thanks."

OREGON

TIGARD TIGERS 7, Rex Putnam Kingsmen 0.

RHODE ISLAND

CHARIHO COWBOYS 22, Warwick Patriots 0 - Cowboys now 7-0, with two games remaining. Coach Ken Brierly: "We have already scored almost double the points we scored last season - 179 so far this year."

SOUTH CAROLINA

MOUNT PLEASANT VIKINGS 13, Titans 6. Coach Jody Hagins: "We could have tied or lost this game on a coaching mistake (I'll get to it later). Anyway, we played the Titans in the Jamboree and the coaches watched our game last week. They had a good game plan to stop our super powers. Put their game plan with our bad snaps and the desire of my wingbacks to turn 88/99 SP into sweeps, and we weren't very effective to the outside. However, for them to stop the off tackle, they had to commit folks to that point of attack. Thus, we started to wedge them. Last night was the best wedge blocking we've had all season (we worked on it a lot at last practice). Both TDs and one PAT came on 2-Wedge (we had well over 100 yards on 2-Wedge -- we play on an 80 yard field). The big coaching mistake was going away from the wedge to TR88SP for the second PAT. Why do something different until they shut it down?"

TENNESSEE

FRANKLIN COWBOYS 7, Hendersonville Hurricanes 7-6. Coach Greg Stout: "We went to 6-1 today with a 7-6 victory over the Hendersonville Hurricanes. We scored on the opening drive on 47C and followed with the same play for the extra point. We moved the ball pretty consistent but had a couple untimely penalties to stop drives. A hold on a 38G-O took away a first down and we got 2 assisting the runner penalties. On one of the my QB who protects the back side got knocked into the runner by the Defense. I think I am going to stop telling the refs about the Wedge. Maybe they look too hard at it. Both teams controlled the ball and Hendersonville on got the ball 2 times in the entire second half. We got the ball with 4:30 left and the Hurricanes had 2 time outs and we were able to grind out the rest of the clock. What a great ball control and time consuming offense."

TEXAS

HILL COUNTRY COWBOYS 31, Town & Country Warriors 6 (Cowboys now 3-0)

ROCKWALL MUSTANGS 13, Raiders 6

SPRING BRANCH (HOUSTON) RAMS 25, Jaguars...6 - Coach Frank Raffaldi: "....it was 19-0 at the half and we played a lot of subs and didnt have a lot offensive opportunities in the 2nd half ....but did have 2 scores called back because of clipping penalties .... the first two this year....oddly enough ... I need to see the film ... I seriously doubt they really are clipping................ ....88 super pwr was a big play....our wedge plays also broke some long gainers ........"

SOUTH EAST(Houston) RAIDERS 33, Salvation Army Gators 0 - Coach Brian Maxey: "We are now 3-0, out scoring our opponents 99-6. We beat last year's league runner up in the mud and rain . We scored on QB wedge from 4 yds out, 2 wedge counter to C Back - 37 yds, 88 SP - 58 yds, 2 wedge - 33 yds, and Over 88 SP - 42 yds."

CAVE SPRING REBELS 33, Franklin County Panthers 6 - Rebels now 8-0 - Coach Armando Castro - "Greetings Coach.Went up against number 2, and undefeated team in county.Results.Cave Spring Rebels 33-6 over Franklin County Panthers. (8-0).Offensive Coordinator Coach Aiken has gotten the play calling, Double Wing style, down to a science.Don't stop us we keep coming.Stop us other ways.It is working like clockwork, and in Double Wing's path a bunch of frustrated coaches trying to stop it. Not yet.On to the playoffs after next game. Will keep you posted.YOU ARE THE MAN!Like the kids say.Best Wishes,Coach Castro - Hey Coach forgot to tell you something. We have scored 218 points so far.Allowed 18.One more game left in regular season.Only team higher in entire league is a junior high level team. They have 252.IT TAKES A SET! Me and Coach Aiken tell each other that all the time.Hope you have some of those t-shirts at next seminar."

CRAIG COUNTY COUGARS 16, Glenver 0 - Cougars now 4-0

STERLING BEARS 6, Purcellville Huskies 0 - Coach Scott Russell: " The first half ended in a scoreless tie. The third quarter drew first blood by the BEARS. With the HUSKIES in control of the ball, inside the 50 yard line, our interior lineman collided with an unprepared ball carrier, stripped the ball out of his hands and cleanly rambled nearly 60 yards for the only score of the game. The PAT, marred with penalties, failed to convert. At the end of 3 quarters, it was 6-0, BEARS. The remaining quarter was much the same until the BEARS took possession on our own 40 yard line with a little more than 2 minutes to play in regulation. Due to some outstanding defensive play and a penalty or two, we were now inside our own 10 yard line, 4th and a mile, 1:30 remained on the clock. Our staff consisting of a PhD. from Harvard, an NFL veteran of 3 teams, a former NFL Europe QB and an experienced LLBFL Dad/lineman coach, we find ourselves in a situation. What to do? Cooler heads (?) prevailed. A promptly called time out by our QB gave the BEARS HFC the opportunity to confer with the officials to determine that yes in fact, our QB can take the snap, turn 180 degrees and race to the endzone for a 2 point safety. That's exactly what he did. 6-2 with :45 remaining. A chance to make the HFC look like a "Hero or a Horse's patoot". Tonight, a Hero. As is customary, we punted from our own 20 yard line, the ball tumbled near mid field, only to be fumbled but recovered by the receiving team. Two plays later, the HUSKIES, AND the BEARS, watched time expire. It was a long sled ride home to the igloo in Purcellville for those HUSKIES. If we are lucky we won't meet them in the play-offs. (Whatever you do, pay no attention to the Harvard guy.)

EDMONDS CYCLONES 19, Meadowdale Mavericks 0 - Coach Glade Hall: "Saturday, our Edmonds Cyclones juniors ( 5th & 6th grade ) beat a very game Meadowdale Mavrick team. It was our sixth win in a row with no defeats. Meadowdale was another big physical team that held us scoreless in the first two quarters. In the first half we owned stat sheets but still didn't have any points. We did have our chances to score in the second quarter. We ran TL56C for a 48 yard gain to the nine yard line for a first down. The next two plays 7G and Stack 5 Lead got us to the three yard line. Our B back then lost the ball and they recovered on the five. The second half restored things when we scored on Ram 88 Power, TL99SP and TR47CXX. It was a tough win that should serve as a wake up call to our kids that we still need work to do if we're to go deep into the playoffs. We've got one more regular season game to go before we start the playoffs. Every game seems to get a little tougher as teams scout us and study what we do. Next up, Lynnwood. Our 89ers ( 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade ) also won. They beat the 89er team from South Everett 13-7. With under two minutes to go they ran TL99 P Keep Right for 52 yards and a win. That team goes to 4-1 and the division lead."

FRANKLIN SABERS 14 , West Allis Badgers 0 - Coach Rick Senk: "Weather was very cold today. Scored on a 35yd 47-C and 30yd Over Tight 38-G. West Allis did a great job on Shutting down the outside and gave us the passing game. However this was a game of missed opportunities for us. 3 separate times in the Red Zone we did not score. Our players ran great routes, they were wide open on 2 Red and Tight Thunder. We dropped 3 passes in the End Zone and ended the game 3 for 13 passing. Congratulations to our defense which gave up only 3 first downs."
