WINNERS - WEEKEND OF 10-11-02

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA - JASPER PLACE 24, Ross Sheppard 0 -Well, yesterday we played our west end rivals at Ross Sheppard High School who were also 3-1. After three TD's in the first half we only managed a field goal in the second half to make it 24-0 (We also missed a 47 yard field goal wide left by 10 feet!). Next up is our perennial nemesis Parkland Predators. We ran mostly Powers and switched from 88/99 to 66/77 which really messed up the DE's. Counters were also good. We ran a Criss-Cross that opened up like the Red Sea! Kyle Wagner

ARDMORE, AL - ARDMORE 28, West Limestone 7 - Ardmore ends 33-game losing streak - state's longest (More on Tuesday's NEWS)

DANA POINT, CA - SOUTH ORANGE COUNTRY PATRIOTS 46, Roland Heights Raiders 6 (9 -10 year olds) Coach Wyatt, Following a lost fumble on our first play from scrimmage, our offense got back on track and rolled over the Raiders. Our 6-0 Patriots ran 49 offensive plays which is a lot at the Clinic level. This week, we square up against the undefeated and unscored on Southbay Packers. This is the one we have been waitng for. Thanks again, Coach ! Al Bellanca

GRAND JUNCTION, CO - EAST 49ERS 28 Grand Mesa Steelers 6: What a great game! We played this team last Saturday and won 32- 6. I figured they would be able to slow us down some with two weeks to prepare and seeing us in person. They couldn't stop us! On our first drive we ran 88 sp twice for 12 yrds then hit the Y TE on a wide open tight thunder x y cross for a 55 yrd td. 88 sp and 6-g were the hammers. Scored one td each with 56-c and 47-c and one more on a great cut back run out of stack I . We had two more td's called back on holding call's on the same kid. Needless to say he spent some time on the sidelines with me! On to the semi finals!! Ted Quinton.

OVIEDO, FL- OVIEDO LIONS 27, South Central Jaguars 18 - The Oviedo Lions Youth Football Pee Wee team improved to 5-2 on the season with a hard fought 27-18 victory over the South Central Jaguars. In getting their 4th win in a row, the Lions came from behind in the second half by controlling the ball and limiting their opponent to a total of 4 offensive plays. We rushed for 206 yards on 44 attempts, with 95 of those yards coming on Spread or Tight Wedge. The big play of the game was a 56 yard Tight Thunder Throwback TD pass on 4th and 7 with 1:30 left. Lee Griesemer

PLANTATION, FL- PLANTATION WILDCATS 33 Tamarac Cougars 0 (7&8yrs old) We are still undefeated (8-0). This last team was winless and our next opponent is also rather weak. For this past week of practice I put the best backs, QB and A back only on defense and instead played the back-up QB and WB's. It made the practices interesting and the game more exciting. Now my studs are hungry to run the ball again. We also started kids who sometimes only play a few plays and alternated kids who are used to playing the whole game. I hope it will be a morale booster that will take us through the playoffs. We could not have done it without the Double Wing! Mike Kahn

UMATILLA, FL -UMATILLA 40, East Ridge 14 - Coach, Well, we made it through another homecoming with all of its distractions and won 40-14 over East Ridge. We were not as focused as I like, but we made some big plays and still had 410 yards total offense. We had two rushing TDs of over 60 yards and returned an int for a 65 yard TD. Two many penalties and missed assignments to put together nice long drives. We start a three game stretch of district games next week and we are the only district unbeaten team. Our destiny is in our own hands, so hope they will be better focused. It has been a long time since Umatilla was 5-1. More later, Ron Timson

ALTA, IA - ALTA 34, West Sioux 6 - Coach Wyatt: Alta, Iowa beat West Sioux 34-6 Friday night to guarantee the first winning season in Alta since 1978! Had an ugly 1st half. Led 14-6 and had only 70 yds rushing at halftime. Rushed for 173 yds in the 3rd quarter alone and rolled to 330 yds rushing and 52 yds passing on the night. Made some adjustments ("scratched where it itched") and challenged some kids at halftime. They responded!! Rushing totals were: A-Backs: 15 carr 133yds 1TD; B-Backs: 5 carr 12yds 1TD; C-Backs: 18 carr 169yds 1TD; QB: 9 carr 16 yds 1TD; Passing: 4-7 att 52 yds 1TD. We play Akron-Westfield (ranked #5) this week. We control our own destiny to the playoffs. Can't ask for anything more!! Scott Lovell

FREDERICKSBURG, IA - FREDERICKSBURG 57, Tripoli 14

HOLSTEIN, IA - GALVA-HOLSTEIN 35 MVAO 7 - Ugly game (we had 6 fumbles (lost 3) and an INT) Rushed 39 times for 280 yards and 1 for 4 passing for 35 yards. A back had another great night 14 carries for 129 yards 2 TD's. B back 12 carries 71 yards 2 TD's. C back 4 carries 35 yards 1 TD (also 2 fumbles) other c Back 4 carries 35 yards. We are currently ranked #2 in class 1A, and have a HUGE game Friday night vs. Southern Cal who is leading our district right now. We need to take care of the ball better or we will not win our district! Brad Knight

ALTON, IL - ALTON 48, Collinsville 6 - WE racked up over 450 yards total yards of offense. 375 rushing. Brad Hasquin

COLFAX, IL - RIDGEVIEW 20, Peru St. Bede 12 - A huge win for the Ridgeview Mustangs. We beat a good team with a great effort from our kids. 344 yards rushing and 26 yards passing. Our defense played great today shutting down their run game. The win assures us of a playoff berth for the third straight year. Coach Mike Benton

EAST MOLINE, IL - UNITED TOWNSHIP HS 59, Quincy 35 - UTHS has gotten 2 in a row. We defeated Quincy 59-35 in a shootout. Tons of offense and no defense. We're now 4-3 and if we make our way through Moline and Sterling we're in the play-offs. Moline is better than we are, but so was #4 Rock Island. Mark Kaczmarek

HANOVER PARK, IL - HANOVER PARK HURRICANES 28, Bloomingdale Bears 14 - Hello Coach..... Canes totalled 330 yards total offense and not throwing a pass the whole game. Ball control and clock management were the key to keeping the Bears offense off the field....and keeping the Canes in control. Nick Pantaleo capped the opening drive from 8 yards out on 3 trap at 2. He also kicked the two point conversion after shifting out of "wildcat" into kick "extra point". Jeff Ball capped a second possesion drive on a very pretty 88 Super Power from 6 yards out. After the Bears scored making the score 14-6, Jeff Ball returned the kickoff for a TD, Michael Munson added the one point conversion on a very pretty 59 Keep G out of "wildcat". Nick Pantaleo added the final score from 10 yards out, again on 3 trap at 2. Quarterback Chris Matelli, got the extra point on Wedge Keep. Thanks again and regards, John Urbaniak

HANOVER PARK, IL - HANOVER PARK 80lb. HURRICANES 28, Bloomingdale 0 - Hurricanes (8 & 9 year olds) go undefeated for the regular season at 8-0. Scored four times in the first half on 7-C, Spread Lazer 29 Reach, Lead Criss Cross 56-C, and a busted 2wedge for 40 yards. B-Back Javaun McDonald rushed for over 225 yards in the first half. The second half allowed all the linemen to run 2 wedge over and over again. Next week the playoffs start and the kids are really looking forward to it. Bill Lawlor

LEAWOOD, KS - LANCERS 42, Blue Valley Tigers 0 (5th grade) Lancers continue to roll with a 42-0 win over the 5th grade Blue Valley Tigers. Keeping with the philosophy of 'run it until they stop it' the Lancer scored early and often on a combination of 88,99 POWERS and powerful WEDGE and COUNTER game. With one game remaining the young Lancers have out scored their opponents 200-18. Michael Rutherford

BELLE CHASSE, LA - BELLE CHASSE 62, St. Bernard 14

BALTIMORE, MD- ARCHBISHOP CURLEY 34, Friends 6

GLENELG, MD - GLENELG 18, Long Reach 14 - Dared to throw by the Long Reach defensive scheme, Glenelg coach John Davis called on senior QB Tim Phelps, who had attempted only 11 passes in the Gladiators' five previous wins. Phelps completed six of 12 for 81 yards and two touchdowns, and Glenelg scored twice in the fourth-quarter to extend its regular season winning streak to 21, and gain Coach Davis his 50th career victory. Game report thanks to John Grimsley

BOOTHBAY HARBOR, ME- BOOTHBAY REGION 37, Old Orchard Beach 12 We went to 6-0 on Friday night beating Old Orchard Beach 37-12. We rolled up 400 yards of total offense. Plus two T.D passes, Thunder A throwback and Red Red Y Drag Opposite. First team played the first half only. We have a tough one this week against Lisbon, they are 5-1 and playing well. Jack Tourtillotte

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI - NFWB VARSITY VIKINGS 37 (7-0), Hazel Park Raiders 0. We ran our second team offense almost exclusively this weekend and the kids performed very well. The second team O scored three TDs while we got our first team O some work on their passing game. The second O had 145 yards rushing on 13 attempts and the first O was 3 of 6 for 39 yds. and a TD. The passing yardage is a little deceiving because two of the plays went for only 4 yds. and 3 yds. (a TD and an extra point), the 4 yd. TD (Blue Blue) was wide open and would have scored from anywhere on the field. Our defense was outstanding holding the Raiders to -1 yard of offense on 34 attempts and a safety. On the subsequent free kick, our 2nd team A back ran the kick back 55 yards for the game's final TD. The game was officially over (32 point spread) with almost 6 minutes left in the 1st half. The Vikings can clinch first place in the league for the first time ever with one more win! Like you say, the DW is not a magic pill that will guarantee wins but, it sure makes things easier on us coaches and the kids have great confidence in the system. Thanks for all your help over the last two years. Donnie Hayes

TROY, MI - TROY COWBOYS 33, Clawson Mavericks 0 - Yesterday, we finally played a pretty good all around football game. Offense, defense (held them to 14 total yards), special teams were all sound. Our blocking and tackling must have been good, because it sounded that way. That's right coach, I haven't seen the film yet, but those crispy, snappy good sounds of the game were happening all over the field yesterday. We won 33-0 against the Clawson Mavericks, and ran our record to 6-1. Our offense once again piled up big yardage (43-261, 6.1 avg.) running the Supers, C's, G's, Leads, wedge (the funnest play ever) & option. We were 3-4 passing (1td). They didn't scout us very well coach because they played a wide 5-2 monster, with said monster going to motion on every play. It was like takin' candy from a baby. Dave Livingstone

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - BENILDE-ST, MARGARET'S 21, Orono 6 - Hugh, The Benilde-St.Margaret's Red Knights claimed their first conference football championship in school history last night, defeating Orono 21-6 in front of a packed house. The BSM double wing offense struggled early in the first quarter but after making some formation adjustments, and passing the ball 14 times to negate an aggressive Orono defense the Red Knights ground game opened up again. BSM gained 250 total yards and senior "A" back Ryan Hibbard topped the 1,000 yard rushing mark with 96 yards. Junior QB Bryce Evans was 6 of 14 passing for 47 yards but each completion was critical in sustaining Red Knight scoring drives. The BSM defense forced six Orono turnovers, three of which the Red Knights offense capitalized on. BSM's clinching touchdown near the end of the fourth quarter was a Wedge Reverse for 27 yards. Joe Gutilla

ST CHARLES, MO - ST CHARLES BUCCANEERS 37, Mid Rivers Eagles 0 - In this league, the clock goes to a continuous clock when one team goes ahead by 30 points. This happened in the 2nd quarter. The Buccaneers were led by A-back Jake Ksiazkiewicz with 4 touchdowns and over 200 yard rushing. 3 of the touchdowns were scored on 88 super powers and one on a 56-C. B back John Mason also scored on a 6-G. The 77 special power worked very well as did the 5-X lead. The Bucs are now 2-0-1 and looking for the playoffs! Steve Fangman

COLUMBIA, MS- COLUMBIA 34, Purvis 6 - We moved to 2-1 in the division race with a 34-6 win Friday night. 3-4 over-all. fullback-24 carries for 186; A back 20 carries for 136; QB 5 carries for 40 yards (5/6 G option and midline, 1 bootleg); C back 5 carries for 42 yards; At home Thursday night vs. West Marion (Cross river rivalry) Steve Jones

COLUMBUS, NE - COLUMBUS SCOTUS 23, Wahoo 6

SCOTTSBLUFF, NE - SCOTTSBLUFF 65, Sidney 35- We had a great night running the DW against a district school last Friday night as we won 65 - 35 . We set school records for most rushing yards in a game and first downs in a game. We rushed for 650 yards on 71 snaps and did not throw a pass. We also had 33 first downs. We had 13 different players carry the ball. We are 4-2 in what we thought might be a rebuilding year, but the boys are starting to play good football. Gary Hartman

CAPE MAY, NJ - LOWER CAPE MAY RAIDERS 30, Delsea Regional 6 - Raiders down returning undefeated league champions. We broke them in the first quarter. We scored first on a 40 yd Rip-47C. (our T hit the OLBer so hard he did a complete backwards flip in the air and landed on his belly). After the kick-off they completed a nice pass to about the five. We held them and got the ball back on the one. After 4 Wedges we were on the 35 and broke a Rocket 38 Reach to the short side (they were over playing us to the wide side) for a 65 yd TD. The rest was easy. We gave them the 6, letting the young guys play the 4th quarter. Our young kids were happy, they broke a 99 SP. for a 20 yd. TD. Frank Simonsen

LANSINGBURGH, NY - LANSINGBURGH 38, Cobleskill-Richmondville 14 - we won a game in wet conditions with a steady downpour. We clinched our league title tonight and are now 6-0. Our B back was the main guy carrying 19- 122yds; our C back gained 95yds on 10 carries and 2 scores. Pete Porcelli

QUEENSBURY, NY - QUEENSBURY 40, Scotia 22. I finally put in 44 and 55 Base lead and had good success with it. First new play in 6 years.(Am I conservative???) We are now 5-1 and look to get at least the 2nd seed in our sectionals. John Irion

WARE SHOALS, SC - WARE SHOALS 28, Ridge Spring 14

DANBURY, TX - DANBURY 27, Brazos 13 - We won our first district game last Friday 27-13 over Brazos HS. We are now 5-0. Stats were not overly impressive. Team rushed for 272 yds on 48 carries, however, we did complete 2 of 2 passes (one for a 26 yd TD from Javier Solis to Jose Mendez on 38 black G-O). B-back Patrick Kelley ran for 101 yds on 14 carries, 1 TD; C-back Chris Sodek ran for 96 yds/1 TD on 7 carries and A-back Joe Bulanek carried for 60 yds/1 TD on 13 attempts. On the road next week at Brookshire Royal HS. The last time we played them was my first year at Danbury. Royal won 62-0. Hopefully, we'll make a better showing this time. I'll let you know. Don Davis

ROANOKE, VA - CAVE SPRING STAMPEDE 47, North Botetourt Knights 0 - Hi Coach.Hope all is well with you and yours. I spent all game stressed out about not running up the score. We really did not run our offense .When we did we scored ,so I spend all game Wedging and running 3 trap 4 just because I'am an offensive Lineman and like those types of plays.Tuesday is final game of regular season. We are 9-0. Armando Castro

LA CENTER, WA - LA CENTER 31, Woodland 8 - Wildcats improve to 4-1 with first win over Woodland in 40 years
