WINNERS - WEEKEND OF 11-1-02

EDMONTON, ALBERTA - JASPER PLACE 42, Ross Sheppard 9 - Coach, BIG win. JP 42- Ross Sheppard 9. The weather was nice so we kept going out of tight. Two plays killed them. 52 Tackle Trap and both 56 and 47 Criss Cross. We punted on our opening drive. They marched the ball but defence held them to a field goal. After the kick off return we ran a 52 Tackle Trap for a 70 yard TD. It steam rolled from there with more tackle traps and criss crosses. Back to the Championship game for the 3 time in 4 years. We play Mc Nally who we lost to this year 13-12 at the beginning of the year.12 noon Saturday. The call is for snow! Thanks for all your support. Kyle Wagner

ARDMORE, AL - ARDMORE 26, Clements 14 - After ending state's longest losing streak two weeks ago, Ardmore wins its seconde of the season.

PHOENIX, AZ - LA JOYA 49, Desert Edge 21 (Frosh) The La Joya Fighting Lobos finished their inaugural season in fine fashion last night with a 49-21 victory over the Desert Edge Scorpions. On our first offensive play of the game we ran 2 wedge for a 65 yard touchdown. We forced another punt on their next possession and proceeded to run 7 more wedges right down the field for another score. It was a thing of beauty, five minutes gone in the game, up 14-0 and we had run 8 consecutive wedges...nothing else! We had 6 players score the 7 touchdowns including another wedge, a counter, a super power, and two G's. Everything seemed to work very well and our lineman responded very well to the "down" call for the TNT look, something we've been practicing all year, but hadn't seen yet. Final season record 6-1-1. Mike Waters

DANA POINT, CA - SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY PATRIOTS 37, La Mirada Matadors 0 - Patriots now 9-0. The unbeaten South Orange County Patriots (clinic division, ages 9-10) overwhelmed their first round play-off opponent. We had 4 runs of over 35 yards from 3 different backs. We only threw 6 times and completed 5 for 3 scores. All 6 pass plays were different and the only pass we dropped was a wide open TE screen that we just installed. It would have gone the distance. I hope to run it again over the next couple of weeks. Thanks again, Coach Wyatt! Al Bellanca

UMATILLA, FL - UMATILLA 44, Tavares o - Coach, We finished up the district 5-0 and are currently 8-1. We have one non-district game left before the playoffs. My defensive coordinator had a great scheme for Taverns and really shut them down. We had three interceptions and ran one back for a TD, and had three fumble recoveries. More later. Ron Timson (From the Orlandeo Sentinel: "Umatilla was led by its big fullback, 255-pound Dontrel Lewis. The area's leading rushergained 117 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown, bringing his season totals to 879 yards and 18 touchdowns.")

ALTA, IA - ALTA 49, Lawton-Bronson 0 - Alta, Iowa finished its season on a winning note by beating Lawton-Bronson 49-0 and finished the season at 6-3 (1st winning season since 1978). We didn't have a smooth start to our final game of the season due to 6 seniors being held out of competition (on senior night!) for violating team (not school) rules. All 6 seniors were two-way starters. We received a lot of flack from parents, but the staff held strong, and the sophomores & juniors who stepped in really came through big time. This incident will turn out to be a blessing in disguise, as we now have the full attention of our kids, and they know who is in charge!! Totals for the night were: 45 rushes 293 yds. A-Backs: 17 rush 105 yds 3 TD's; B-Backs: 9 rush 18 yds 1 TD; C-Backs: 5 rush 141 yds 2 TD's; QB: 14 rush 29 yds; Passing 5-13 att 87 yds 1 TD. Looking forward to watching fellow DW school Galva-Holstein start playoff action this Wednesday. Scott Lovell

The varsity defense was on the bench midway through the first quarter, and the Offense took a seat at the 11:44 mark of the 3rd QT. Now it's on to the playoffs on Wed Nov 6th. It looks as if we will host. What an exciting time of year for everybody. Steve Staker (Fredericksburg, defending state class IA champion, was not expected to get this far this season. HW)

NORTH FARMINGTON, MI - NFWB VARSITY VIKINGS 22 (10-0), Royal Oak Chargers 0: Another tough battle with the Chargers ends up with the Vikings gaining its first ever playoff victory. We got off to a slow start leading 8-0 at the half but, turned up the intensity level in the second half to score to more TDs and get the win. The offense gained 248 yards on 42 attempts for a 5.9/play average. We were 0/4 passing, as has been the case all year, we had the receivers open but had trouble getting the ball to them. We are still working very hard on it in practice but, our QB just can't seem to make the throws (Our passer went down in game 4 with a broken collar bone). Our defense stifled the Chargers, holding them to only 25 yards on 24 attempts (we had 9 TFLs). With this victory, we earned the right to go on to face the Madison Heights Wolverines in the SuperBowl next Sunday. We beat the Wolverines earlier in the year 16-0 and hope to repeat that again in a week. (Unfortunately, we won't get to have that DW showdown) Donnie Hayes

HOPE MILLS, NC - HOPE MILLS FALCONS 20, Hope Mills Steelers 8 - Finished Regular Season undefeated! 7-0! Another game of getting up by 3 touchdowns and then coasting for the win. Not our choice but kids are kids. Now we go to the County Championship game. Ray Knagge

CAPE MAY, NJ - LOWER CAPE MAY RAIDERS 42, Millville 18. Again our second team played most of the game. First Defeense held them to negative yardage the first half. We have a bye week then go to the play-offs, tied with 3 other teams as third best team in the league. It's going to be tough to keep them sharp for two weeks. Send help. Frank Simonsen - PS - We ran Flanker Left Roy 47-C (inside) twice for 2 untouched TDs. Pass this on to our DW bros to try.

LANSINGBURGH, NY - LANSINGBURGH 68, Cohoes 0 - Junior Kareem Jones scored four touchdowns and senior Marcel Youngs added three as the Knights won the Section II Class B semifinal. Lansingburgh (9-0), ranked No. 6 in the state, advances to its first Super Bowl in school history next Saturday where the Knights will face Hudson Falls. Stack I DW 66,77 superpowers and Criss crosses worked great. They played the entire game in a 7-4 or an 8-2-1 - Scott Beranek

GREEN BAY, WI - GREEN BAY PREBLE 17, Stevens Point 7 (2nd Round State Playoffs) A fake field goal with 9:40 left sealed the win for Preble. Lined up for a field goal try on fourth-and-goal from the Stevens Point 6-yard line, holder Josh Martell took it in for the score. Stevens Point had good reason to believe Preble would go for the field goal - midway through the third quarter, Dan DeJaeger had connected on a 52-yard field goal to put Preble up, 10-7.
