PLANTATION, FL - WILDCAT PEE WEES (7 & 8yrs old) 18 - Opponents 7; This was the first game of our 11 game season. We had 225yds vs. 40yds. My RB's picked up the basics in 5 minutes and my offside guards pull on 88's and 99's. Michael Kahn, Plantation, Florida

DECATUR, GA - Rockdale 135-LB Div.1, 30, Ray of Hope-14 Our Double Wing kept us in it. We ran up on a group of lanky super speedy athletes last night and kept the ball most of the night. We have managed to open with a 2-0 start. We are slow and our DW ball control is our only chance to compete at all. We must have had over 100 yds. on Wedge alone. 47-C was a biggie. Our powers were solid also as well as 3 trap @ 2. We have a happy bunch of kids and parents because it is the first brush with success these kids have experienced. It is so rewarding seeing kids get excited and having fun playing REAL football. We will only be SO-SO or (SOL) on "D" due to the extreme lack of athleticism and speed, so the DW is a MUST, just to keep the clock and the ball moving! Larry Harrison, Snellville, GA

ALTON, IL - ALTON 59, Quincy 8 - Coach Wyatt,If you need more fuel against the argument that large schools can't win with the DoubleWing, The Alton Redbirds in Illinois won using the D-Wing 59-8. We are a Class 7A school with 2242 students enrolled. We made the playoffs last year running the doublewing for the first year. This is our second year and we rolled up 422 yards total offense. We only threw two passes, both completed, we also had 376 yards rushing. We ran touchdown plays with 7c, 6 and 7g, 88 super power and 5x. We are learning the offense with each passing day.Thanks.Coach Brad Hasquin, Alton HS

BLOOMINGDALE, IL - 90 LB Gold Division BLOOMINGDALE BEARS 20, Bartlett Raiders 7 - After watching us throw 17 times and run 18 times last week against Tri-City this team was determined to stop our passing attack by playing a 2 deep safety formation to stop our Red/Red but all that did was show we can pound them with a very good running game. 3 trap at 2 was there all day long against their TNT look and they had no answer to our Tight 2 wedge. On our first possession at our own 20 we pounded them up the gut with 3 trap at 2 with our B-back Clay Cooper for 10 yards. We then ran our Super Power plays with great success. With all this going on we forced them to stack the line to stop our running game then we hit them with a knockout punch on a Red/Red for a touchdown. QB Erick King rolled out and hit C-Back Brandon Salemi for a 50 yard pass and catch for our first score. We moved the ball on them so well this game we didn't even have to throw in the second half at all even with 10 in the box!

COLFAX, IL - RIDGEVIEW 46, Gridley 6 - Ridgeview rushes for 365, passes for 88. Coach Mike Benton: "Pretty good effort from our kids, lots of mistakes though. Plenty of room for improvement. I was encouraged by how well our young O-line did tonight against a 10 man front."

HANOVER PARK, IL - HANOVER PARK 80 lb. Gold - 26, Streamwood - 0 - Hurricanes go to 2-0 and roll up 371 yards on the ground. Hurricanes ran out of Tight and Spread formations, scoring on Spread Lazer 29 Reach, Spread Rocket 38 Reach, Rip 3 trap at 2 and Rip 47-C. We have stayed with the "old school" double wing, passing only once in three weeks. One time too many perhaps???? Some notable players for the week were Aaron Thabuteau, Javaun McDonald, Andrew "Speed Racer" Homere, Kevin Hilliard. The offensive line was sparked by last minute replacement Jordan Hudak, who stepped in for our sick starter at left guard. The defense was spearheaded by Darryl Vittal with seven tackles in the first half. Coach Bill Lawlor

HANOVER PARK, IL - HANOVER PARK 139 lb. Hurricanes 21, Lombard Falcons 0 - Hello Coach... Nick Pantaleo got the scoring early on 66C...they never saw him til he broke into the secondary 10 yards from anyone else. Later in the second period he again scored on one of the most beautiful 3 trap @ 2 I've ever seen. Again, the defense never saw the ball. After a 90 yard drive in the 4th quarter that ate up 8 mins 30 seconds, Pantaleo found Chris Seeman wide open on a throwback. All day long the defense was tackling wrong ballplayers, they were very confused. Next stop, the Wheaton Rams, and boyhood home of Red Grange. The boys are gonna get a history lesson at today's practice. Rds, Coach John Urbaniak

OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL - RICH CENTRAL 50, Chicago Kelvyn Park 0 - The Olympians pick up where they left off

EAST MOLINE, IL - UNITED TOWNSHIP 34, Proviso West 12 - Coach,We opened in the Chicago suburbs versus Proviso West. It was a success while playing like it was our 1st game. 442 yds. of offense vs. a Purdue like no back/no huddle team. They got 349 in the air, but we had 5 picks. Due to injuries, defections or ineligibility we were down to 2 HB's that were uneven in terms of talent. So, we went motion back and counter back. Our motion backs got 18 carries for 168 yds, the B backs got 20 carries for 68 yds., our Counter backs got 8 carries for 44 yds, and the QB had 30 yds. in 7 carries. Our QB was also 7 of 9 for 137 with 2 TD's and 1 pick. Mark Kaczmarek ("Coach Kaz" open with a win at his new school, after years at Davenport, Iowa Assumption HS)

MOUNT VERNON, IN- MT. VERNON 51, North Posey 16

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI - NFWB Varsity Vikings 33, Roseville Broncos 0. We only ran 88/99 SP, 3 Trap 2, 2 Wedge, and Red Red! On the first play of the season for us, we ran Tight Rip 2 Wedge for a 65 yard TD!! My A Backs gained 52 yards on 4 carries, my B Backs gained 146 yards on 18 carries, my C Backs gained 75 yards on 5 carries, and my QBs gained 32 yards on 4 carries. We had two incomplete passes (Red Red was there but we just didn't make a good throw) but we will fix that this week in practice. The total yards gained were 305 yards on 33 plays for an average of just over 9 yards/play. We made some mistakes on offense that we will need to address in this week's practice but, for alot of the kids, this was their 1st game. Overall, I was very happy with our performance. Our defense was outstanding! We held the Broncos to -30 yards total offense. Like I said, its a great start but we still have some work to do. Donnie Hayes

REED CITY, MI- REED CITY 21, Houghton Lake 9 - Last night, we traveled to Houghton Lake (a team that reached the second round of the Division 4 playoffs last season) and pulled off a very exciting 21-19 victory. We have 24 players on our varsity roster this year and only suited up 21. Three starting lineman are injured (both guards and our right tackle). Those three men also start on defense. To make things more interesting, I had to suspend another two-way starter (C-back and DB) for missing practice. And then, midway through the first quarter, our stud B-back gets injured. Thank goodness for the versatility of the DW! With 5 starters out of the game, we still managed to gain 250 yards on the ground on 50 plays. Five yards and a cloud of dust. I think you would be happy to know that we did this by running only 4 plays (SP, Trap, Wedge, and Counter). We attempted 3 passes with only 1 completion, and that was to our opponent. Once again, thanks for all your help and support. I'll keep in touch. Sincerely, Monty Price, HFC, Reed City HS Coyotes

TROY MI - TROY COWBOYS 14, Royal Oak Chiefs 6 - it was a sloppy game, especially by our defense, for which I am responsible. This is my 30th year coaching & this game can still humble one in a heart beat. We WILL do better. Our passing was bad, but we still averaged 6.7 yards per carry on the ground. Freshman coach Dave Kenan finally tried the double wing for some of his plays. He ran 9 plays for 80 yards=8.8 yards per play. Bob Bowman's junior varsity scored 2 TD's on 6-G, but really scored big on some passing plays. Both teams won big. Take care, coach. Glad to see you are running the Winner's Circle. Bill Livingstone

COLUMBIA MS - COLUMBIA 14, Magee 13 - After a long, successful run at Florence, Mississippi, Steve Jones' first game in his new job is a win for the Wildcats

WAHPETON, ND - WAHPETON 41, Breckinridge 8. We are playing the defending state champions Bismarck this weekend and they beat us 2 times last year. Hopefully having them here will help. It also will be nice that thier defensive offensive tackel is gone. He currently will start for the Minnesota Golden Gophers as a true freshmen. Red River High school the other double wing team in the conference won 14-7. Joel Bickford, Wahpeton HS

ALOHA OR - ALOHA 17, Milwaukie 13 - Warriors, down 13-0 after one period, score two second half TD's to overcome 13-3 halftime deficit and end 13-game losing streak.

BEAVER, PA - BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP 20, Rochester 8 - That "Screwy offense that won't work" dominated a very good Rochester team for my friend Rick Stiffey's Brighton Township Midget team. I know we ran 50 plays to their 20, and held the ball for 30 of 40 minutes. However, too many penalties stalled or killed drives. He has a great A and B back, but his C back is not the "home run" hitter you would like to have at that position. Rick had not put in any of the sweeps (Down, Reach, Jet) so when they jammed it up off tackle and ignored the C back on the counters, things got tough. He finally instructed the A back to dip inside on the 88 Super Power, then break it outside. 85 yard TD. 20-8, Brighton Township. Rick will be putting in a Stack I formation to use his great A back more, and will also be putting in the sweep variations. Mark Rice, Beaver, Pennsylvania

WARE SHOALS, SC- WARE SHOALS 27, Jonesville 12

DANBURY, TX- Danbury 21, Louise 0 - Coach Wyatt, Thought I would let you know that we won our opener on the road vs. Louise HS, 21-0. We let the clock run out as we were on their eight yard line. Also, we had an A-back fumble on 38 g-o reach in the fourth quarter at their 6 yard line. On the plus side, B-back Patrick Kelley ran for 117 yds. on 14 carries, C-back Nicoli Aguinaga ran for 101 yds. on 12 carries and A-back Chris Sodek ran for 67 yds on 13 carries. We finished with 387 yds. rushing, 0 for 2 passing (red-red). Our defense held them to 98 yds. rushing,12 yds. passing. We have an open date this week. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for everything. Coach Don Davis

BLOOMER, WI - BLOOMER 20, Altoona 0 - Bloomer, defending state semi-finalist, starts out 2002 with a shutout win.
