WINNERS - WEEKEND OF 9-20-02

DANA POINT, CA- SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY PATRIOTS 38, Orange Chief 0- What a game. As I mentioned last week we only passed twice in our first two games, one for a TD, another one dropped. This past week we threw an unprecedented 12 times, completed 9 for 175 yards and 3 TD's. That went well with our 170 yards rushing. This makes me very happy as my son is the same QB that only threw 2-3 times/game under last year's head coach/O-coordinator. We broke out the 88/99 stampede (power sweep) and the 6-G option pitch, both for big gains and TD's. Al Bellanca

KERSEY, CO- PLATTE VALLEY COLTS 30, University Bulldogs 0 - Good Morning, Coach! The Colts racked up win number three yesterday at home. Once again our opponent had a very good sized team and we wore them down to take a 6-0 half time lead. The guys kicked the door in the second half and finished with 270 yards using seven different backs. We got touchdowns from Wedge, G.O. Sweep and Super Power. I also jumped into the Power I we've been working on for a few weeks and not bad results with 7 carries for 75 yards with a touchdown. Our last division game is next week and it is for the division title.

LAS ANIMAS, CO - LAS ANIMAS 34, Rye 14 - Trojans win Homecoming, defeating state's #9-ranked team. The Trojans ran the ball 48 times for 340 yards and completed 5 of 16 passes for 117 yards and two TD's (black throwback post has been good to us!). We ran tight 99 super power 6 consecutive times on the first possession of the game and then scored on 6 G. We are getting better every week. The twin tilt defense was suffocating as we had 5 takeaways (2 int's and 3 fumble recoveries). Next week is a huge league game at rival Crowley County. Greg Koenig

PLANTATION, FL - PLANTATION WILDCATS 22, Coconut Creek 0 (7&8 yrs old) We used the throwback for the extra point on our first of 3 TD's this week. The pass was completed for the conversion. I wanted a pass play for 3 yards because in our league, the Pee Wee's get 2 points for a forward pass and 1 point for a run. To go up by 8 is an enormous advantage and to be able to make up for a missed conversion by getting two points may also save us. Michael Kahn

UMATILLA, FL - UMATILLA 12, South Sumter 10 - Coach, We just pulled off the biggest upset in a long time at Umatilla. We defeated South Sumter, Ranked 4th in the state in 2A, 5 time district champion, and state semifinalist last two years. They have a kid named Earl Everett who is listed on some of the recruiting networks as a top 20 prospect in the entire country. He is wanted by Miami, FSU, Fl and a host of other Div I schools. I don't have all the statistics yet, but it was a huge win and the first district game for us. I remember the first year I got here they hung about 65 on the board on us. We have come a long way in 4 years. I told my kids before the game they only needed to be able to lookl the at the man in the glass afte the game and say they had done everything they could to help their team win. They grew up a whole bunch tonight. They even got to shave my head at mid court in the school gymnasium after the game. I had promised them if we were 3-0 after South Sumter they would get the opportunity. Now I have to spend the rest of the season looking like a fat Budda, but it sure was worth it when I looked into their eyes after the game. They are going to sleep well tonight. More later. Ron Timson

ROCKDALE, GA - ROCKDALE BULLDOGS (135 LB.) 16, Roswell 8. Another "W" for the Rockdale Bulldogs (4-1) that could have been a much larger score if not for the 4 fumble turnovers. We simply have to get that corrected, but a win is a win. It's better to be naive in our kid's case, but I wasn't going to tell my players that our opponent was much bigger, stronger and faster than we were in every position on the field. Our guys are beginning to believe that we are really good!!! We will just continue to wade through the oppositions laughter at our immature and frail appearance at weigh in, and keep on working our plan between whistles. This group continues to believe and play over their head, with the DW offense, keeping defenses scratching their head. We have a brutal test coming up Saturday, Oct.5. VS Forsyth County. Larry Harrison

FREDERICKSBURG, IA - FREDERICKSBURG 35, Lansing Kee 6. A back rushed 14x for 159 yds and 2TDs. QB was 3 for 1 for 82 yds and 2 TDs. Nice to be back in winners circle. Steve Staker

HOLSTEIN, IA- GALVA-HOLSTEIN 27, Boyer Valley 0 - 53 carries 421 yards - 3 of 6 passing 32 yards- A back 14 carries 109 yards 1 TD - B Back 14 carries 50 yards 1 TD - C back 13 carries 79 yards - QB 7 carries 149 yards 2 TD's - Backup A and C back 4 carries 27 yards - Backup B Back 1 carry 7 yards - They had an okay scheme to stop us, we didn't play "great" missed some blocks and some cuts that would have led to more yardage, but 421 yards will work fine with me as long as we win. We are averaging 407 yards of rushing per game on the year! Brad Knight

BLOOMINGDALE, IL - BLOOMINGDALE BEARS 8 Wheaton Rams 0 - Another win for the Bears against a very underrated WheatOn team. Wheaton really scouted us well on all of power plays but had really good success with our counters and wedge plays. C back Brandon Salemi scored on a text book 47 C Criss Cross 65 yd touchdown run that got us the only touchdown of the game. With the #1 defense in the league that's all you need to win games. In 5 games the defense has 4 shutouts and hasn't given up a touchdown all season long. Defensive coach Rob Leston really deserves credit for such a hard hitting defense. We're the only unbeaten team in the league right now and have a chance to finish undefeated. Big game next week in Tri-City see you next week Coach! Stacey King

HANOVER PARK, IL - HANOVER PARK 80lb. HURRICANES 6 Buffalo Grove 0. - Canes go to 5-0. We were finally tested yesterday by a bigger and stronger football team. It was good for the kids to be in a close game for a change. We drove 77 yards over 14 plays to control the whole second quarter and punch it in right before halftime. We had two touchdowns called back in the second half due to stupid behind the play blocks in the back, and we turned the ball over FOUR TIMES in the fourth quarter. We were lucky and have a lot to work on this week. Bill Lawlor

HANOVER PARK, IL - HANOVER PARK 135 lb HURRICANES 30, West Chicago Wildcats 7 - Hello Coach, The Hanover Park Hurricanes defeated the West Chicago Wildcats in West Chicago by a Score of 30-7. Wildcats only score came on the last play of the game after being in the courtesy rule the whole second half. (Ball is placed at our 30 after a score) 88 Super Power run by Jeff Ball was there all day. When they went to their goalline defense we went with 6G and 3 trap at 2 for huge gains. Adam Young had two scores on Liz 99 SP and 47C. Basically we only ran Wedge,88SP, 99SP,3 trap at 2, and 6G all day long. Nick Pantaleo also added his first field goal from 23 yards out. It was a great day for the offense. Many many kids got to carry the ball on 2 wedge. Rgds, John Urbaniak

SHAWNEE MISSON, KS - SHAWNEE MISSION EAST LANCER 44, Blue Valley Northwest Lancers 0 - The 5th grade Shawnee Mission East Lancers and their double wing offense keeps on rolling. We won our 6th game this season with a 44-0 win on Saturday over the Blue Valley Northwest Huskies. We are averaging 34 points per game while giving up a mere 2 points per game. The Huskies ran a 10 man front in an effort to slow the wing. No such luck. Super-0 and 0-Wedge plays proved too much. We also scored twice through the air on Thunder pass. Michael Rutherford

BALTIMORE, MD - ARCHBISHOP CURLEY 41, Pallotti 14 - Curley builds up a 34-0 halftime lead and coasts to win.

MILLERSVILLE, MD - MILLERSVILLE WOLVERINES 35 - Edgewater Blue Devils 0 - Pleased to report a better game this weekend. Our A-Back Jason Clements scored 3 times 88 Power/88 Super Power and 56-C. We were able to add to more scores from the C-Back position 99 Super Power the our QB leading the way downfield on a 69 yard run. Another score was on a 47-C. Will still need more positive production from our line play, but when you gain 307 yards on the ground it's hard to explain to a 10 year olds - that we can play better. We have a big game this weekend. Will keep you posted. Jason Clarke

BOOTHBAY HARBOR, ME - BOOTHBAY REGIONAL 30, Winthrop 6 - Beat Winthrop 30-6 in the most physical football game we have had in a six years. Only 195 yards. We scored on a 20 yard 2 trap at 5 and two 47 Browns, hitting the y-end on the banana for a 70 yard TD and the B-Back for a 10 yard TD. Our defense scored a safety and intercepted a pass late for a TD. Hope we don't have to meet them in the play-offs a very tough, physical football team. Jack Toutillotte

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI - NFWB VARSITY VIKINGS 25 (4-0), Troy Cowboys 24. Vikings win battle of Double-Wing Titans. In a dog fight, we held off the Cowboys on the last play of the game and blocked their 2-point try. In a seesaw battle in the first half, we once again managed to score a TD on our very first play from scrimmage (4 weeks in a row). Score was tied at 18 at half time. The Cowboys scored on a hail Mary play with one second left and then went for 2. We blocked it. It was a great game. We gained 282 yards on 35 attempts for an 8.0 yard average. We made a lot of mistakes and had WAY too many penalties that almost cost us the game and the biggest blow we took was that we lost one of our QBs for the year with a broken collar bone. Again, it was a great game and I'm certain we will be seeing the Cowboys again in the playoffs. Donnie Hayes, North Farmington, MI

MINNEAPOLIS, MN- BENILDE-ST-MARGARET'S 60, Columbia Heights 0 - The BSM Red Knights ran their season record to 3-1 (3 - 0 in conference). The Red Knights double wing offense mesmerized the confused Hylander defense racking up 562 total yards. Senior "A" back Ryan Hibbard (5' 7-150) pounded out 198 yards and 3 scores in only 8 carries, junior "C" back Jimmy Smoot had 118 yards and 2 TD's on 8 carries, and sophomore "B" back Shane Fox added 112 yards and 2 scores on 10 carries. In two weeks the Red Knights have outscored their opponents 109 - 0, and have racked up 922 yards. Joe Gutilla

ST. PAUL, MN- WOODBURY 30, Stillwater 20

FARGO, ND - RED RIVER 30, Fargo Shanley 22. We played well on an opponents field. 5 Base Lead and QB boot away from the 88 Power action was big. We had balanced scoring. They scored late to make the score look closer. In week two, we lost a tough one 13-14...we dropped two TD passes...critics say we need to pass more...we broke a 76 yard TD with an 88 Super Power for the first play of that game. We are playing Wahpeton, ND; the other double wing team in our conference this week.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - MANZANO MONARCHS 41, North Rams 6 - Monarchs: 465 yads total offense - We played our first game Saturday out of the slot formation. We ran it against a TNT look with the ends playing outside our TE's. This made for huge gaping holes in the 4 and 5 holes. We wedged them to death and ran a 29 and 38 when they would close in the middle. We also ran the 4 and 5 Lead intermittently with great success. Marvin Garcia

LANSINGBURGH, NY - LANSINGBURGH 72, Schalmont 6 - Last week our inside game was there so we knew that this particular team would try their best to shut that down. super powers and G-O reach went well for us counters were there all day long - A back kareem Jones 9 - 138 yds 2tds - B back Shonte Freeman 9- 98 yds - 3td's - C back Marcel Youngs 8-92yds- 2td's. We are currently ranked 6th in state in class b and meet class c powerhouse Watervliet (ranked 8th in state) in a big showdown Friday night. Pete Porcelli (The Knights scored 10 touchdowns Saturday and all 10 were on plays longer than 10 yards. "Lansingburgh is the real deal," Schalmont coach John Gallo told the Albany Times-Union. "You just can't simulate that kind of speed in practice.")

DANBURY, TX - DANBURY 40, High Island 0 - Victory number three. We used 11 runners to compile 378 yds. Biggest producer was C-back Nicoli Aguinaga with 126 yds. on ONLY 4 carries. B-back Patrick Kelley had 78 yds. on 12 carries. A-back Kenny Baker had a 70 yd kick-off return to start the second half. We have an open date this week, then homecoming, YUK! I'll keep you posted. Thanks for everything. Don Davis

ROANOKE, VA- CAVE SPRING STAMPEDE 36, North Roanoke Vikings 8.

ROANOKE, VA - .CAVE SPRING STAMPEDE 34, North Roanoke Hokies 0 .(Stampede now 6-0) 47c opened up 77special power,56c.Blue Blue pass scored.3 trap 4 ran it 3 times for 37 yards.Wedge scored from 2 yard line.Basically everything worked cause this team like many others made the grave mistake of keying on one back and one play. Deadly for them.Oh by the way they were using an 8 man front.Regards,Armando castro

VIENNA, VA - JAMES MADISON 48, Stuart 0

EDMONDS, WA - EDMONDS CYCLONES 50, Coach, Lakewood Cougars 0 (junior division - 5th & 6th grade) - Under the lights at Edmonds Stadium we pounded out a 50-0 win. Believe me, it could have been worse. I called off the first unit in the second quarter when we hit 37 points. Our powers, counters, G plays and 88 / 99 power options were cooking and could be run anywhere on the field with success. I'm most pleased with our line development, big improvement from the week before. We move to 3-0 and look forward to another game this Saturday. Glade Hall

LA CENTER, WA - LA CENTER 38, Castle Rock 28
