DIRECTIONS, PLACES TO STAY

IN RESPONSE TO NUMEROUS REQUESTS - I will be selling tapes at clinics and if they are bought at the clinic they will sell for $4.95 off. However, I am limited in the number of tapes I can carry, so if I should run out, I will still sell "rain checks" at the clinic price and ship the tapes when I return home. The clinic prices only apply at the clinic to people who are registered.

A COACH ASKS: Do you have an agenda of topics to be covered?

Coach: I do not work with a formal agenda. To me, that is a promise that I am going to cover the things I put on there. I refuse to do that. I work off a list of things that I am prepared to cover, but I can't cover them all - there simply isn't time in a one-day clinic to cover them all.

I don't want to leave a topic until the coaches in attendance are ready for me to do so. That means that if I tried to work off a rigid agenda, I might disappoint some of them by failing to get to the last couple of items on it. I can't stand people who say that they're going to talk about something and then they never do.

And I like to respond to the needs and wishes of each particular group of coaches. Audiences, I have found, can vary greatly.

One thing I can say is that my clinics are for a wide spectrum of coaches - youth coaches as well as high school coaches - but they are not intended to supplant my teaching materials - to teach the Double-Wing to people who don't have any understanding of it at all.

My overall theme will be the two major characteristics of my system - simplicity and breadth. Those two characteristics appear to be contradictory, but they coexist in our system, and I believe that it what makes it unique. Thanks to its simplicity, we are able to teach it relatively quickly, and concentrate on doing a certain core of things very well; but thanks to its breadth - its versatility and flexibility - we are able to take that core of things and, employing them in a wide variety of ways, become truly multiple.

My guiding purpose has always been to send people away with a better understanding of how to be a more effective Double Wing coach, and with a whole lot of things to think about. I think that most people who have attended one or more of my clinics will tell you that I have managed to do that.

Hope you can make it.

Coach Wyatt: I was planning to attend your spring clinic in Chicago in March.  I was also looking at your library of videos.  I have coached for 6 years in the 10-13 year age range and fiddled with the double wing in the past.  I was hoping to really use it this year and wanted to know if your clinic is focused on coaches new to this offense.  Also, which tapes would you recommend. Thanks for your help.

Hi Coach- Good question. It is fair to say that the clinics, although mainly aimed at people who already run the offense, are very useful to people who might not have run it yet but do have a basic understanding of it - terminology, etc. You can't get to that point without 'Dynamics of the Double Wing" - video and playbook.

"Installing the System" would also be invaluable.

If you come in with that knowledge, you will not be alone. You will then be able to understand and profit from what you see and hear, and to talk with other coaches at the clinic. Hope you can make it!

*********** Coach Wyatt, the Detroit Clinic was outstanding! Customizing the session to the audience of youth coaches worked great. It was refreshing to see the sharing of ideas between coaches that compete against each other throughout the year. I've already emailed Donnie Hayes and Dave Livingstone to confirm their interest in setting up a "Double Wing Team Camp" next year. Doug Parks, Milford, Michigan

*********** Coach: I just wanted to say that your (Providence) clinic last week was without a doubt the most productive I have ever attended!! Some might think that it was because the subject matter was so specific, but really it was more than that! Your approach to your audience is terrific. You engage them and make it clear that the question that is NOT asked is the most important one.

We will be installing the DW this summer for our Pop Warner B Team and will certainly meet resistance from many groups. Your insight and suggestions were priceless!! I took so many things away in my 18 pages of notes that it's too difficult to count. It's clear to see why you have such a strong following. I already look forward to the next clinic.

I had the pleasure of sitting next to Coach Tourtellotte (sp?) and thoroughly enjoyed what he had to say. I can see why you two have achieved such a bond. It is such a pleasure to be around people who genuinely love what they do.

And finally, I'll be trying to convince my son to move from HB to Guard this year for the good of the team. He has very good skills, but I think he will deliver a blow more effectively than he takes one. Now we will see what kind of a salesman I am!! Nobody runs this system in our league and very few run it in Massachusetts, so with the right personnel we should have great success.

The family is away tonight so I'll be watching my new video re: Installing the System. Now that's a great night!!

Thanks again! Jim Smith, Boston (Later) I watched the Installing the DW video last night and was amazed at the relative ease with which you got those kids on board so quickly. Your style of engaging the players is very effective.
